iPhone 12 Pro: Apple is about to release the big game for the photo part

The photo block of the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will undergo major improvements. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the 6.7-inch model will use a new type of stabilization called sensor-shift that promises better results than current optical stabilization. The wide-angle sensor meanwhile gains in performance with a new size of 1 / 1.9 ″ against 1/34 ″ currently.

iPhone 12 Pro vs 12 Pro: great

The rate of leaks concerning the iPhone 12 has not decreased. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just released a new report that focuses on the expected progress for the photo portion of the next iPhone. The basic iPhone 12 will remain on a dual sensor. The 6.1-inch Pro version would have three in addition to a ToF module. The latter could take the name of Lidar scanner like the iPad Pro 2020.

On this version, we would also find a wide angle lens of 1 / 2.6 ″ with a 7-lens optics system. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, for its part, would also rely on 3 photo + ToF sensors with the particularity of having a sensor-shift stabilizer on the ultra-wide-angle module. The iPhone 11 Pro uses optical image stabilization, but only on the telephoto and main sensor (wide angle).

Sensor-shift technology will therefore allow Apple to bring stabilization to any lens, including the ultra-wide angle module. Sensor-shift is a new type of stabilization that corrects the effect of movements by acting directly on the sensor itself rather than the optics. This new system promises better performance for stabilization. Kuo also announces a size of 1 / 1.9 ″ for the wide angle lens of the iPhone 12 Pro Max instead of 1 / 3.4 ″ currently, which makes it a particularly large sensor for a smartphone.

A larger sensor means more light captured, which will allow for better photos, especially in low light conditions. In 2021, the same sensor-shift technology could extend to both Pro versions, or even all 3 variants of "the iPhone 13," writes Kuo. Apple should also continue to improve the photo section in 2022 by adding a periscope lens to the iPhone this year for the first time.
