Android: Google failed to prevent this malware from invading the Play Store

The Play Store is the target of new adware. Called Tekya, this new adware is hidden in 66 seemingly harmless Android applications, many of which are aimed at children. In total, the malware was installed by more than a million users.

Tekya malware is hidden in the code of 66 applications in the Play Store, report computer security researchers at CheckPoint. To deceive the new security mechanisms implemented by Google, the virus relies on the code of Haken, an adware spotted in late February on Android. This family of malware is indeed capable of fooling the security systems of Google Play Protect by hijacking a function anchored in the framework of Android.

The list of Android applications infected with Tekya malware
Once on the victims' smartphones, Tekya will display pop-up advertisements on the screen. The malware will even click instead of users on these advertisements. With this trick, the hackers behind Tekya make advertisers believe that their ads are viewed by many users. They then receive significant advertising revenue in a short time. This invisible process quickly slows the performance of infected smartphones. Likewise, battery life plummets.

Among the applications infected with malware, there are around twenty titles intended for the youngest, such as racing games or childish puzzles. There are also many utility applications, such as scientific calculators, translators or PDF readers. To attract users, apps often copy the popular app interface and logo. Here is the complete list of applications to uninstall without delay from your Android smartphone or tablet:
