Microsoft Defender ATP antivirus is coming soon to Android and iOS

Microsoft will bring its Defender ATP antivirus to Android and iOS by the end of the year. The firm promises antivirus protection as well as command line access. Microsoft needs to reveal more information about the port on the sidelines of the RSA Conference March 4 to 8 in San Francisco.

Microsoft Defender ATP will also have Android and iOS versions. The Verge reveals that Microsoft is bringing Windows 10 antivirus to both ecosystems. According to our colleagues, these dedicated applications must offer anti-virus protection as well as "full command line access". However, for the moment, the firm does not really give more details on the differences with the PC version of the antivirus.

Mobile operating systems are more locked out than their PC and Mac counterparts. This is particularly the case for iOS, which does not really allow developers to build applications capable of scanning for viruses and malware. Antiviruses are not accepted on the App Store. According to The Verge, the declination of Microsoft Defender iOS would therefore only provide protection against Phishing.

Android, however, is more permissive, with an already supplied antivirus offer. We can therefore imagine that the Android version of Windows Defender will behave more like its computer versions. The announcement comes almost a year after Microsoft released a "Public Preview" version of Microsoft Defender ATP for macOS. Incidentally, the application, previously known as Windows Defender ATP, was renamed Microsoft Defender ATP.

In addition to the Android and iOS versions, Microsoft also announces a port of Defender ATP on Linux with a "preview" version available for professional customers. Microsoft has also announced that more details on these mobile versions of the antivirus will be announced on the sidelines of the RSA conference to be held in San Francisco from March 4 to 6, 2020.
